he Charleston Inn Bed and Breakfast of Bryson City, North Carolina, is the realization of a dream shared by Angela & Scot Warf, who bought the Inn on September 1, 2000.
Angela and her family are native to Bryson City, having spent most of their lives with these beautiful Smoky Mountains at their back door. In fact, her father grew up in a place called Hazel Creek, part of which is now beneath Fontana Lake. The remainder of his family's home place is now owned by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Scot was also reared in the Appalachian Mountains a few miles north in beautiful Elizabethton, Tennessee. He was born just a few miles north of that in the mountains of Bluefield, West Virginia. Scot has always called these Appalachian Mountains home.
What Brought Us to the Bed and Breakfast Industry?
Part of Angela's work experience in Bryson City includes almost ten years as an Assistant Innkeeper at a local country inn. After that, Angela started work in the banking industry, where she and Scot met and shared dreams of someday owning their own inn. They continued working in the banking industry, but never forgot those dreams.
In the summer of 2000, the opportunity to realize their dreams became possible because of the tireless efforts of successful Bryson City Realtor Gloria Kaylor. The inn was for sale, and Scot & Angela decided to work at the inn and stay in a room there for one week to see if operating an inn full-time was all they dreamed it would be.
Indeed it was.
At the end of the week, they decided to seize the opportunity to realize their dreams. Just a few weeks later, they owned their own bed and breakfast. They later changed the name of the carousel-themed room they had stayed in that week to "Brass Ring".
How Old is the Property?
The Main House was built in 1927 by McKinley Edwards. The Edwards Addition was built in the 1940s as Apartments. The Smokey Mountain Cabin was also built about the same time as rental property. It has been said that these were the only apartments in Bryson City for a number of decades.
In 1997, local tax accountants Rollon & Sherry Smith bought the property and extensively renovated the buildings and installed the magnificent landscaping that makes the property so special. They later sold the B&B to Angela & Scot.
How Many Rooms Are There in the Bed and Breakfast?
There are 13 guest rooms and one Smokey Mountain Cabin Rental. Check out our full Smoky Mountain Accommodations listing for more information.
